Thursday, 09 July 2020 | PNS | Ranchi

Donation boxes and precious utensils in temples have become a soft target of thieves in the State capital as in past few days the Capital has witnessed several theft incidents at God’s abode. The recent in the list is theft at Goddess Durga and Lord Hanuman temple at Dhurwa sector III.

Miscreants broke inside a couple of temples located under Dhurwa police station area of the State capital and decamped with donation boxes. The incident came to notice on Tuesday morning when the priests of the temple reached the premises for performing the morning rituals. Upon reaching the temple, the priests found that the lock was broken and thieves had taken away the donation box and other items from the temple.

Not only theft at temple cases of chain snatching and loot incidents have seen a rise in State Capital in past few days.

On Tuesday two motor-cycle borne miscreants looted Rs 2 lakh cash from police personnel near Rajendra Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) premises under Bariatu police station.

The victim police personnel, Suresh Thakur posted as ASI at Silli police station after withdrawing cash from State Bank of India (SBI) Bariatu branch was going towards the main road when two bike borne miscreants looted the cash.

The newly appointed SSP of Ranchi Surendra Kumar Jha said, “The Ranchi police will intensify police patrolling, and the Quick Response Team (QRT) will be strengthened. Police patrolling on lanes and bylanes will be intensified. As theft incidents have occurred in temples security will be briefed at religious places too.”

The Ranchi police are also planning to hold a meeting with temple authorities where they will be briefed about the measures to be taken to strengthen security arrangements. Jha said that as most of the chain snatching or loot incidents occur in morning or evening near parks or market places, police personnel in plain clothes will be deployed at these places.

A majority of snatching incidents occurs during afternoon and late evening hours when it is difficult to identify snatchers.

Snatchers grab the victims from the back and snatch their chains, earrings and other ornaments and escape from the scene within seconds. They target women who pass through deserted areas.
