The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Pritam Singh has expressed resentment over the statement of Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat in which he had allegedly termed former Prime Minister (PM) Rajiv Gandhi as a coward.
In a statement released on Friday, the PCC president said that it is unfortunate that such utterances are made against the leader of the party which had led the freedom struggle. He added that the leaders of the Congress party have laid down many sacrifices for the country. Former PMs Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi belonging to Gandhi family had scarified their lives for the country.
The Congress leader said that the statement of CM reflects his mental status. On a stern note, he said that the CM should inform as to where his ancestors were when the freedom struggle was going on and what role did they played in the struggle for independence. He said that late PM Rajiv Gandhi laid the foundation for development of the country as he was responsible for initiation information technology and computer revolution.
“It was Rajiv Gandhi who gave voting rights to youngsters and strengthened the Panchayati Raj bodies by 73rd and 74th constitution amendment acts,’’ he said.
