Programmes launched to protect children from diarrhoea, anemia

Chhattisgarh Health Minister T.S. Singh Deo on Wednesday launched an Intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight (IDCF) and Infant Protection Month (IPM) to protect children and people from diarrhea and anemia.

The Minister officially kick-started the programme by distributing Vitamin A tablets and Iron-Folic Acid (IFA) syrup to infants at his residential office at Ambikapur, an official    communiqué said.

The IDCF campaign in Chhattisgarh will run from July 8 to July 21 and the IPM drive from July 14 to August 21 in every district, the statement added. 

At the launch, the Minister told all 28 District Chief Medical Officers (CMOs) and Health Department officials through video conferencing that every rainy season diarrhoea adversely impacts children and the elderly.

He warned the officials that under no circumstance should it go out of control.

The Chhattisgarh government will raise 7,194 Oral Rehydration Therapy (ORT) and Zinc corners in the state.

This will benefit 30 lakh children below 5 years, the Minister said. 

He announced that 26 lakh children will be given dosage of Vitamin A tablets. Another 28 lakh children will be provided IFA syrup to protect them from anemia.

Highly malnourished children will be admitted at nutrition centres, the Minister said.
