Protest demanding fee exemption ends on 43rd day

The movement in support of demanding fees exemption in private schools ended on the 43rd day after considerable drama. A local councillor Rohit Kumar climbed atop an overhead water tank and threatened to jump if the demand was not met. Police force and the leader of Opposition and Haldwani MLA Indira Hridayesh reached the protest site at Buddh Park. They tried to convince the councillor to climb down while shortly a student leader also climbed the water tank and caught hold of Kumar. However, while he was bringing him down, they were attacked by honey bees which created further commotion at the protest site.

Earlier, councillor Mahesh Chand who was sitting on a protest fast unto death in support of the demand was taken by the police and admitted to a hospital late on Monday night. On Tuesday, the protesters remained on the protest site. Another councillor Rohit Kumar climbed atop an overhead water tank. He threatened to jump down if the government didn’t meet the demand of fee exemption for private school students.

A larger crowd gathered at the protest site after the councillor climbed atop the water tank. Soon the police force and Hridayesh also arrived at the protest site. Some time later, student leader Yogendra Bisht also climbed the overhead water tank and caught hold of the councillor. He was bringing Kumar down with him when honey bees attacked. Later, the leader of opposition assured that she will raise the issue emphatically in the Vidhan Sabha.

She administered juice to the protesters to break their demonstration.
