Punjab reports 16 deaths, 819 fresh Covid cases

16 people succumbed to Covid-19 as 819 fresh positive cases surfaced in Punjab on Friday.According to Punjab’s health bulletin, the total toll reached 4572 while the total infections stood at 144995 in the state.In the last 24 hours, the state reported 16 casualties including four in Ludhiana, three in SAS Nagar, two in Bathinda and Mansa, one each in Ferozepur, Patiala, Muktsar, Hoshiarpur and Ferozepur.

Among the fresh cases, a maximum of 195 cases were reported in SAS Nagar, 96 in Ludhiana, 95 in Jalandhar, 66 in Amritsar, 65 in Patiala, 59 in Pathankot, 49 in Bathinda and other cases.As per the bulletin, the total number of COVID-19 recoveries in Punjab has increased to 133919 after 492 new recoveries were reported from the state in the last 24 hours.

The state now has 6504 active cases. Of these, 141 patients are on oxygen support while 12 are critical and on ventilator support.

Ludhiana leads the case tally of positive patients with 21865 cases, followed by Jalandhar with 16672 and SAS Nagar with 14226 cases.

 Of the 4572 COVID fatalities in the state so far, a maximum of 877 deaths have been registered in Ludhiana district, 521 in Jalandhar, 475 in Amritsar, 409 in Patiala, 263 in SAS Nagar, the bulletin stated.

Till date, 2970682 samples have been tested in the state, it added.


The union territory of Chandigarh on Friday reported one COVID-19 fatality as 150 new positive cases were detected.  “The total case tally stood at 16472 while the death toll reached 255 in the city”, stated Chandigarh Health Department’s evening bulletin.

There were 1121 active cases in the city till the evening. 133 patients have recovered in the past 24 hours taking the total number of recoveries to 15096, the bulletin said.  Among 150 fresh cases, 85 were males and 65 were females. A maximum of 11 cases were reported in Manimajra here. 130070 samples have so far been tested in the city and 1512 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.
