Jagadguru Shankaracharya Nischalananda Saraswati inaugurated a programme of distribution of 30,000 coconut saplings undertaken jointly by the Bhasha and the Odisha International Centre (OIC) here on Tuesday. The Shankaracharya donated five saplings to mark the beginning of the campaign.
Over three lakh coconut trees had been uprooted by the impact of Cyclone Fani in May 2019. As a result, farmers lost income. The OIC has provided 30,000 sampling for distribution to farmers in Puri Sadar, Satyabadi, Pipili, Brahmagiri, Gop and Kakatpur block areas.
Among others, America’s Odia volunteer Priyadarshan Patra, Vastu expert Manoj Lenka, Rotarian Monoj Tripathy and Kuldip Rath were present. Matruprasad Mishra organised the event. Shreemandir Muktimandap member Bichitrananda Mishra also graced as the occasion as a guest.
Volunteers like Bhabagrahi Shanti, Kumudini Panda, Kamal Kumar, Itishree, Lalatendu Mishra and Indira Mishra coordinated the programme, which ended with a vote of thanks delivered by Bhasha secretary Jayanti Sahoo.
The coconut distribution work would end on Gandhi Jayanti on October 2, said OIC chairman Paresh Nayak.
