Sports Officers asked to submit 2 proposals

The important Khelo India laghu kendra for development and promotion of sports at the grassroots level is launched under Khelo India Scheme by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India.

Under the scheme, one thousand centers will be established in the entire country. Under this important scheme the training of players at the grassroots level will be held by former champion players.

Each year, three Khelo India centers will be selected by the District Sports and Youth Welfare Officers of Sports and Youth Welfare Department with the recommendation of the District Collector and the proposals will be sent to Directorate of Sports and Youth Welfare, Madhya Pradesh.

Former champion players will be the coaches and mentors of budding players and their experience should be utilized adequately on training of players. Along with this, it will also be ensured that these former champion players can get some income from this work.

 In this connection, all the District Sports Officers of the State have been directed to select maximum two proposals for the year 2020 -21 from their respective districts and submit them in the prescribed form by July 20, 2020.

In this four-year plan, 1000 Khelo India centers are to be set up across the country. It consists of 14 sports played in Olympics such as archery, athletics, boxing, badminton, cycling, fencing, hockey, judo, rowing, shooting, swimming, table tennis, weight lifting, wrestling as well as football and traditional sports.

For the establishment of Khelo India Center, the former champion players will be provided with trainers, supporting staff, sports equipment purchase, sports kit, non-consumables and grants to involve the team in the competition.

While selecting the centers, sports of 18 sports academies run by the Sports Department will be given priority, so that this center can prepare platform of better talent as a co-training center of Sports Academy.

    Besides, the Government of India will provide financial assistance for 4 years to selected Khelo India Centers. After four years, with the recognition of former champion players as established coaches, they will be able to conduct the center continuously with their own resources.

The selected Khelo India Center will be made available by the Government of India for a expenditure of Rs 5 lakh per center per game for the upkeep, upgradation, sports equipment, sports kit.

The applications of the former champion sportsman or institution should be sent in the stipulated period to the District Sports and Youth Welfare Officer along with the check list and the necessary documents attached.
