The second Sainik School of the State has started functioning at Basantpur, near here.
There was long demand for a Sainik School in Sambalpur and the then MP (LS) Amar Pradhan had taken up the matter directly with PM Manmohan Singh and the latter had sanctioned it.
Former Collector Pradipta Patnaik had allotted land for it in hundred acres in Basantpur village, the area which has now become part of the city after new Mahanadi bridge at the collectorate. The first class of the first batch was begun online amidst Corona restrictions recently.
100 students-both boys and girls have taken admission in the first batch in Class VI. At the same time, classes on the line of requirement of the students as per the modern technology including digital classes are in place for the students. Out of the new 100 students, 39 are from Odisha and the rest are from other parts of the country, the school authorities informed.The students from SC, ST categories have also been given admission as per the Government norms.
