State Assembly gears up to hold Monsoon Session

The monsoon session of Jharkhand Assembly being held amidst coronavirus pandemic scare will be different in various ways. The State Government on the first day of monsoon session commencing on September 18 is going to table the first Supplementary Budget in the House, while there will be discussion on the various work initiated by government during the pandemic.

The five day session from September 18 to 22, actually have only three working days. Assembly speaker Rabindra Nath Mahto on Tuesday convened a meeting which was attended by leaders from different parties and officials from Assembly secretariat.

Speaker had a discussion about safety measures to be adopted by lawmakers, government officials and mediapersons in the House. The Speaker also discussed about the itinerary of the session. On September 18, the first day of session the government will table supplementary budget in the House. On the same there will be condolences for leaders and eminent personalities who passed away between last session and monsoon session. The House will be adjourned after the condolences.

The next two day September 19 and 20, there will be no House proceedings due Saturday and Sunday holiday. The House will resume on Monday on September 21. Monday will have question hour, discussion on supplementary budget, voting on supplementary budget and other proceedings.

The last day of session September 22 will have question hour, passing of bills and others.

 As the session is held amidst coronavirus pandemic, safety measures will be employed.

The Assembly secretariat has asked all lawmakers to get their corona test. Lawmakers having the report positive will not be allowed to participate in the proceedings. However, they can raise question of public interest by assigning other lawmakers to raise question on his or her behalf. However, they have to inform this to assembly secretariat 24 hours before the proceedings.

Media persons entering the Assembly premises for covering the proceedings too will have to submit their corona report 72 hours before the session commences.

Wearing of masks, keeping sanitizers and gloves has been made mandatory.

Entry in assembly will be made only after thermal scanning. The district administration and health department has made elaborate arrangements to meet any untoward incidents.

Sources said that important bills such as Jharkhand Land Mutation Bill 2020, Sarna religious code and others are listed likely to be passed during the session.
