Women of Nirbhaya Woman Shelter Home made aware of police functioning

Sunday, 18 October 2020 | Staff Reporter | Bhopal

A programme was organised to make women aware of Nirbhaya Woman Shelter Home in Bhopal, in which the women of the shelter home were made aware of the functioning of the Police by the former Ratibad TI Sub-Inspector Kanchan Rajput. Informed about the history of the police, he said that the need of women in the police came when the incidents of kidnapping and rape in the post-independence riots started increasing rapidly.

During this time there was a two-way migration of Hindu-Muslim people, due to which a large number of women refugees entered India. This mobility of women refugees led the Government of India to face many troubles, which some women were recruited into the police in 1948 to control. Although women were made part of the police in some states even before independence, their number was negligible. But as crimes against children and women increased in independent India, the need for female police personnel to record and interrogate them increased.

Similarly, the work of searching female criminals started being done by women police personnel. Today, there is a woman police station in every district which is in charge of women itself and this department investigates cases like domestic violence, child marriage, dowry harassment. On this matter, he said that both men and women are selected in the police department, and physical efficiency is different for both.

Besides, there is relaxation in different physical skills according to the reserved category in the police. Women have to complete 2.5km race time within 15 minutes. Women should have a length of 145cm. Different qualifications are required for different posts in Police Department. To become a police, you have to pass 12th, only then you can appear in the police entrance exam.

Students of Arts, Commerce and Science can participate in this exam. If you want to become a constable constable, then you can become a constable to give the exam of 12th. For this you do not need to do a degree or graduation. If you want to become an Inspector of Police, then it is mandatory for you to complete graduation.

On this occasion, the director of Nirbhaya Swadhar Greh, Samar Khan told the women that even today there are a large number of women in our country who are illiterate, but are unaware of their rights, they do not know the constitution and laws of the country. How many laws have been made for them in the system.
