Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath flagged off a Sherni Dasta, a team of woman police personnel patrolling on scooters, which would be deployed at all police stations in Gorakhpur city.
“This squad will help in controlling crime against women,” Yogi said while flagging off the Sherni Dasta from outside Gorakhnath temple complex in Gorakhpur on Monday.
Equipped with GPS system, sirens, flash lights, public address systems, pepper spray and other essential police accessories, the Sherni Dasta on scooters will patrol the city to help women in distress.
Hero MotoCorp Ltd, one of the largest manufacturers of two-wheelers, presented 100 Hero scooters — Destini 125 and Maestro Edge 125 — for the woman police officers. This is part of the corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative of Hero MotoCorp, called Project Sakhi, which has been launched in association with the UP Police.
Earlier in the day, Yogi Adityanath performed puja at the Mansarovar temple in Gorakhpur.
He was on a two-day visit to Gorakhpur after kicking off Van Mahotsav campaign in Lucknow on Sunday.
