Development after protest by BJP, Cong against ban
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday urged Lieutenant-Governor Anil Baijal to allow Chhath puja celebrations in the national Capital. In his letter to the L-G, Kejriwal asked him to call a meeting of the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) as soon as possible to allow Chhath puja celebrations as the Covid-19 situation in the national Capital was under control.
The development comes amid a sharp attack on the Kejriwal Government and protests by the Delhi BJP and Congress against the Chhath ban.
Recently, in a protest outside the CM’s house, Manoj Tiwari, Member of Parliament, (MP) had got injured. Tiwari, very popular among the Poorvanchalis said when “spas and swimming pools can be re-opened then why can’t people perform Chhath puja.”
In his letter to the L-G, Kejriwal said the Covid situation in Delhi has been under control for the last three months and he believes that the permission to celebrate Chhath should be given with suitable protocols in place in view of the pandemic.
