Amid heightened political turbulence in Punjab Congress, the State Congress party affairs Harish Rawat is rushing to Chandigarh on Saturday to meet Capt Amarinder Singh — an apparent move by Delhi Durbar to pacify the Chief Minister.
The party high command asked Rawat to meet the Chief Minister to discuss the “formula” prepared to resolve the internal crisis and power struggle, besides taking him into confidence. This after Capt Amarinder shot off a letter to party supremo Sonia Gandhi underscoring caste concerns regarding the decision to have two Jat sikhs at both the top party posts in Punjab.
The Chief Minister’s “explosive” letter, handed over by his OSD Narinder Bhambri, reached Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi’s office before she was scheduled to meet the Congress “firebrand” leader Navjot Singh Sidhu.
After Sonia Gandhi’s hour-long meeting with Sidhu in the presence of Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi and Rawat, it was believed that Sidhu’s new role as the PPCC chief is expected to be announced anytime now.
