‘Bagheli Gaan’, ‘Gond dance’ performed under ‘Gamak’ series at MPSTM’s online channel

Under Gamak series dance and music performance was held on Sunday on YouTube channel of Madhya Pradesh State Tribal Museum.

Pratima Shah and group, Jabalpur performed 'Bagheli Gaan'  and Chain Singh Shyam and group Dindori performed 'Gond Tribal Singing and Dance'.

The first presentation under the series was 'Bagheli Gayan' by Pratima Shah and group. They started off with Kajri song- Hare Rama Chhai Ghata Ghanghor, Suhag Geet- Lali-Lali Chudiya, Sohar Geet- Angana Mein Thadi Nandiya, Marriage Song- Hamari Janakpuri Sasuraar Akele. Hum Na Jaive Ho, marriage songs – Raja Dashrath Phule Na Samaye and Kajari – Dhani Ho Khole Na Kibdiya stopped their presentation.

She was accompanied by Lallu Verma, on Majira, CL. Sharma on dholak, Vishisht Jaiswal on cymbals, Reshu.

Pratima Shah started singing at the age of fifteen. She took her early education in music from her father Lakshmi Kumar Shah and is currently taking classical singing education from Shri Alok Verma. Shah has performed Bagheli and Sugam Sangeet on many big local forums.

The second presentation was given by Chain Singh Shyam and his group. They performed Gond tribal singing and dancing. They began eith Shiv Vandana, then the traditional tribal song Karma / Saila songs of the Gond community were presented, after that Shri Chain Singh performed Karma and Saila dance along with his fellow artists.

Saila is named as Saila because of singing a dance song with a stick of one and a half hands. After the Dussehra festival of the Gond tribe, on the night of Sharad moonlight, the Saila Reena dance song is performed and on the day of Deepawali, the group gathers in the village to perform the Saila Reena dance song.

Whenever, on the special invitation of a prominent person of another village, the men and women of the village dress up and take their cultural team and go from one village to another and perform Saila-Reena dance song. The village of Mejwan treats this group with great respect and at the end takes blessings by donating cow tika.
