Uttar Pradesh recorded  21,331 fresh Covid cases in the last 24 hours while 29,709 patients recovered in the same period. The death toll stood at 278. There are 2,25,271 active cases in the state at present while 15,742  people have succumbed to the infection.
There were 30 deaths recorded in Kanpur, followed by 26 in Lucknow, 16 in Jhansi, 15 in Azamgarh, 12 each in Hardoi & Gonda, 10 in Gautam Buddha Nagar, nine in Varanasi and eight in Saharanpur.
Meerut witnessed the maximum number of fresh cases at 2,269 followed by Lucknow (1274), Gorakhpur (1031),  Gautam Buddha Nagar (1026), Saharanpur (961), Varanasi  (864) and Kanpur (430).
Additional Chief Secretary, Health, Amit Mohan Prasad said on Monday that 2,14,977 people were tested for Covid in the state. “For the 10th consecutive day, UP recorded more recoveries than the fresh cases in 24 hours. With the state managing to flatten the curve and limiting the transmission of the deadly virus, the Covid situation in Uttar Pradesh has been consistently improving as the number of active cases has been drastically reduced by 85,000 in the last 10 days,” Prasad said.
He said that with the aggressive approach against Covid, the number of about 3.10 lakh active cases on April 30 has come down to about 2.25 lakh now. “Besides, the surveillance committees are going door-to-door screening, providing free medical kits to people for effective and timely recovery of Covid patients in home isolation,” he said.
