6 killed as truck rams into roadside tea stall

Six people were crushed to death and two others were critically injured when a truck rammed into a roadside tea stall near Ahirauli village under Mohammadabad police station on National Highway 31 in Ghazipur district early Tuesday morning.

 

Superintendent of Police Ram Badan Singh said eight people were sitting in the stall and sipping the morning tea at around 7:30 am on Tuesday when the truck coming from Ballia side crushed them.

 

Virendra Ram (40), Satyendra Thakur (28), Golu (14) and Ramashanker (62) died on the spot while Shyam Bihari Kushwaha (45) and Chandramohan (50) succumbed to their injuries at the hospital.

 

After the incident, an irate mob caught hold of the truck driver and cleaner and brutally beat them, critically injuring both. After the incident, the local villagers blocked the highway for over three hours.

 

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief at the deaths in the accident and asked the district authorities to provide compensation to the families of the deceased and adequate treatment to the injured.

 

Meanwhile, a couple riding a motorcycle were killed when a speeding car hit their two-wheeler when they were returning home after attending their aunt's funeral,

 

The accident happened on Tuesday near Chhabeel Chowki on Lucknow-Sultanpur National Highway under Loni Katra police station in Barabanki.

 

Reports said that Shri Krishna, a resident of Karora in Gosaiganj police station area of Lucknow, along with his wife, Brajmavati, had gone to attend the funeral of Joras aunty in Loni Katra police station area of Barabanki on Tuesday morning. Both were returning to Lucknow at around 12:00 noon. When they were crossing the road through an illegal cut on the highway, a speeding SUV hit hard the, killing Brajmavati on the spot. Shri Krishna, who was critically injured, was taken to the Trivediganj community health centre but he died during treatment.

 

The news of death of the couple sent shock waves in the family as preparations for Dhanteras and Deepawali were going on in the house. Police sent them for post-mortem. A case was registered against the car driver and efforts were on to arrest him.
