95 cases of dengue reported last week in Capital, 348 so far

With 95 cases of dengue reported in the last week, the total number of people infected with this vector borne disease has reached to 348 this year, according to a report issued by civic bodies on Monday.

According to the report released on Monday, 71 cases of malaria and nearly 148 cases of chikungunya have also been reported till August 21 this year. The number of dengue cases for January 1-August 7 period is also the highest this year since 2018 when the count had stood at 64 in that same duration.

Out of the total cases of dengue, 34 patients were infected in other States but diagnosed in Delhi after investigation while the hospital did not provide address of eight other patients, the report said. Similarly, out of total cases of malaria, nine people were infected in other states and diagnosed in the national capital while 13 cases of malaria also infected in other states but being treated here, it added.

Malaria, dengue and chikungunya are accompanied with high fever and therefore, doctors feel that people might suspect that they have contracted COVID-19.

A senior SDMC official said that domestic breeding checkers found mosquito breeding in 1,12,080 households in the city and 94,701 legal notices have been served for various violations and "12225 prosecutions initiated".

The number of dengue cases for January 1-September 18 period is also the highest this year since 2019 when the count had stood at 217 in that same duration.

According to the civic report issued by the municipal corporations last week, 158 cases of dengue were recorded till September 11 this year. So, 53 fresh cases have been logged in one week.
