B'pur MLA Panda cremates unattended bodies

Brahmapur MLA Bikram Kumar Panda is being praised by people from cross sections of the society for his noble work of cremating unattended bodies of Covid victims.

On Sunday, Panda along with his group of volunteers cremated the body of an unmarried woman which her family members and relatives had deserted suspecting Covid infection. The woman Sandhyarani Patnaik was undergoing treatment at the MKCG Medical College Hospital for her burn injuries caused during lighting diyas in a temple. She succumbed to burn injuries on Sunday morning, but nobody from her family came to take the body in fear of Covid infection. Being informed by volunteers, Panda arranged postmortem and cremated the body as per the protocol.

"I am doing all this as a responsible citizen and at the inspiration of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik being part of ‘Odisha Mo Parivar’,” said Panda.A few days back, Panda had cremated bodies of two men as they were not accepted b family members in fear of Covid infection.
