BJP welcomes Centre’s MSP hike decision

Friday, 11 June 2021 | PNS | Ranchi

The State BJP unit has welcomed Centre’s decision of increasing the minimum support price (MSP) of paddy and other Kharif crops. State BJP president welcomed the decision and expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said that the decision is a step in direction of doubling the income of farmers.

The Centre on Wednesday announced new minimum support price of 14 kharif (summer sown) crops, giving a hike of Rs 72 per quintal to the most popular crop paddy — from Rs 1,868 per quintal in 2020-21 to Rs 1,940 per quintal in 2021-22 marketing season.

The BJP State president who is also a Rajya Sabha member targeting Congress said the grand old party (Congress) has a habit of continuously misleading the farmers regarding MSP. Prakash said the Centre by announcing hike in paddy and other crops has put an end to all apprehensions. He said the Modi Government is continuously working towards doubling the income of farmers by 2022.

Elaborating on the rise of MSP on some of crops, he said that this year an increase of Rs 72 per quintal has been made on paddy while Rs 300 per quintal on tur and urad has been increased.

The BJP president said that the maximum increase has been made in sesame with an increase of Rs 452 per quintal which will bring smile on the face of the farmers. The BJP president highlighting some of the works carried out by the Modi Government said that the Centre even in the odd circumstances of these corona pandemic times is concerned about the farmers’ welfare. The BJP president said that the Centre has not only increased the MSP of crops but Rs 286 crore has been sent in the farmers account of the State in the form of Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi. Apart from this, a subsidy of Rs 1,200 was also given on DAP fertiliser.

Targeting the JMM/Congress alliance Government he said the State Government is anti-farmer and is only concerned with cheating the farmers. The State Government could not ensure the procurement of paddy at MSP. The farmers of the State were forced to sell at cheap prices. Today the farmers are moving here and there to get their money for the crop they have sold. He said the condition of farmers is so pitiable that while on one hand they have not received the money for the paddy which they have sold, the remaining paddy is getting rotten as the State Government has failed to make paddy procurement. Prakash also said that in JMM/Congress Government farmers were forced to buy urea at a higher price.
