Friday, 27 August 2021 | PNS | Lucknow

After announcing to name the main road leading to Ram Janmabhoomi and five other roads and Aligarh airport after Bharatiya Janata Party’s late stalwart Kalyan Singh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced on Thursday that the Super Specialty Cancer Hospital in Lucknow and Government Medical College in Bulandshahr would also be named after the former chief minister of UP.

On Thursday, the chief minister’s media advisor, Mritunjay Kumar, tweeted, "Paying tribute to former CM Kalyan Singhji's public service, #UPCM Shri @myogiadityanath ji has decided to rename Government Medical College, Bulandshahr and Super Specialty Cancer Institute, Chak Ganjaria, Lucknow after Late Kalyan Singhji."

Earlier on August 23, Yogi Adityanath had announced to name Aligarh airport after the late leader. BJP MP Satish Gautam and several local leaders had urged the chief minister to rename the Aligarh airport after Kalyan Singh.

Similarly, Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, who holds the PWD portfolio, had declared on August 23 that the road leading to Ram Janmabhoomi in Ayodhya would be named after the former chief minister of UP.

Besides Ayodhya, one road each in Lucknow, Prayagraj, Etah, Bulandshahr and Aligarh will be named after Kalyan Singh. All the roads will be called Kalyan Singh Marg. Maurya has asked PWD officials to prepare the proposals immediately for renaming of these roads.

Kalyan Singh (89) passed away after a prolonged illness in Lucknow on August 21. He was cremated on the banks of river Ganga in Narora, Bulandshahr. All senior BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and BJP president JP Nadda had either flown down to Lucknow or Aligarh to pay their tributes to Kalyan Singh.
