Coordination needed between three pillars of democracy, says Speaker

Thursday, 16 September 2021 | PNS | Dehradun

The Speaker of Uttarakhand Vidhan Sabha Prem Chand Agarwal has said that coordination, communication and conviction are needed between legislature, executive and judiciary for strengthening democracy. He was addressing the 81st convention of All India Presiding officers on Wednesday.

In view of the prevailing situation of the pandemic of Covid-19 the programme was organised virtually. He said that the three pillars of the democracy are both complimentary and controller of one another. Agarwal opined that instead of engaging in a competition to show one another in poor light these pillars should work in strengthening one another. He said that the members of legislature should use the question hour effectively as it is an important tool to ensure the responsibility of the executive.

The Lok Sabha speaker, Om Birla said that deliberations during the convention would help in meeting the challenges facing the democracy in a better way. The theme of this year’s convention of the presiding officers was ‘use of Information Technology in legislative functions’. The presiding officers deliberated on the role of Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha and Vidhan Sabhas in strengthening the democracy in the country during the convention.

The deputy chairman of Rajya Sabha, the speakers of Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Haryana, Goa, Karnataka, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Assam, Andhra Pradesh and Nagaland and others attended the convention  of the presiding officers.
