In a daring incident, a truck hit a vehicle belonging to the UP Commercial Taxes department in a bid to speed off during a checking drive on Yamuna Expressway on Wednesday night. In the incident, a policeman was killed and six others were injured.
Police said that the incident happened near Milestone 60 of Yamuna Expressway in Mathura when Joint Commissioner of Commercial Tax Manoj Tripathi was checking the vehicles with others.
During the checking, a truck driver hit the Commercial Taxes department vehicle in which constable Kishore Kumar Shukla (33), a native of Kanpur, died on the spot.
Joint Commissioner, Commercial Taxes, Vinay Gupta, Assistant Commissioner Virender, driver Vijay Kumar Yadav, peon Vinod Kumar and Anil Rawat were injured along with another person.
Naujheel police rushed the injured to Kailash Hospital in Noida even as the errant driver fled the scene bandoning the vehicle. The police impounded the truck.
SP (Rural) Sreeschand said one constable died in the incident while six people were injured. A case was registered in this regard.
In a separate incident in Sonbhadra, three minor boys died after a mound of coal mine waste in Shaktinagar area started flowing following incessant rains, police said on Thursday. Shaktinagar police station incharge Mithilesh Mishra said the incident occurred on Wednesday morning when four boys — Radheyshyam, Dinanath, along with Abhishek and Vikki (both aged 12) — went to answer nature’s call from Hardahva locality.
It seems the coal mine waste gathered on the upper part of a drain suddenly started flowing due to the rains, the SHO said. Later, the bodies of Radheyshyam, Vikki and Dinanath were recovered from the drain while Abhishek was injured. He was admitted to a hospital.
In a separate incident in Badaun, two motorcycle-borne youths were killed after a tractor-trolley hit their vehicle, police said on Thursday. The incident occurred on Ataina Ghat bridge in Ushait police station area on Wednesday night, they said. While Aslim (35) died on the spot, Manoj (22) lost his life on the way to Usawan CHC, SHO Chetram Verma said, adding the bodies were sent for autopsy. Tractor driver Rajveer was detained, the police said.
