A couple of Baliapal block was thrashed by their fellow villagers and driven out of their village Mahinsapatta under Srirampur GP of Balipal block in Baleswar district on the suspicion of practising witchcraft.
The homeless couple Lashkur Tudu and his wife Rukmini has taken shelter in a hume pipe along with their children in the severe cold . According to reports, two sons of Lashkur’s elder brother died after suffering from unknown diseases a few months ago . His brother and other villagers went to a sorcerer of Mayurbhanj district to ascertain the reason behind the deaths. He told them that Rukmini was practicing sorcery which resulted in the deaths. After his brother and some locals returned their ordeal started and they were thrashed and forced to leave the village without their belongings.
However, some other villagers informed the local BDO, who said that he was looking into allegations. Latest reports said the local Tehsildar has rescued couple after getting informed about the incident.
