Cyber crooks cashing in on Covid-19 crisis

State Cyber cell issued an advisory against cyber criminals who are presently taking advantage of the Corona epidemic. Cyber criminals contact hospitals, doctors and pathology etc., posing as army personnel and want to conduct Covid and other tests of their family members and dupe the victims.

In the name of advancing payment of fees coming in Covid test and other tests, money is transferred from victim’s account by cyber criminals.

At present, cyber criminals are contacting hospitals, doctors and pathologists posing as army and other officers, in which they trap victims saying that they are posted out of the State and family has to get Covid test, eye check etc.

For the fraud, they ask for the number of e-wallets like phone pay, google pay or pay tm through whatsapp and after giving the number, fraudsters would transfers Rs 5-10 from his account and asks you to check the account. The money sent by them comes to your account.

As soon as victims gets convinced, then the criminal sends a request for all the charges of all the investigations, by which victim pay by phone, Google Pay or Paytm and as soon as you click on the request and enter the UPI PIN, the amount is withdrawn from your account.

Two renowned hospitals in Bhopal have faced crimes and CA and medical practitioners could also be targeted. If anyone faces such crime, complain about it to the nearest police station or www.cybercrime.gov.in or toll free number 155260.
