The Delhi Government will provide an ex-gratia of Rs 1 crore as compensation each to families of two Delhi Police, three Indian Air Force (IAF) and one Civil Defence personnel. The Delhi Cabinet approved the file in this regard on Friday.

The ex-gratia payment to the kin of the personnel who were killed in action has been termed as ‘Samman Rashi’ that the revenue department proposed and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal approved.

“Delhi people who lost their lives in the line of duty cannot be compensated, but the family will get some help from the amount given by the Government to honour their sacrifice. The Delhi Government stands with the families of all paramilitary, Army, police and Civil Defence personnel who are residents of Delhi,” Kejriwal said.

This amount will be given to the families of Sanket Kaushik (ACP-Delhi Police), Vikas Kumar (Ct., (Exe), Delhi Police), Parvesh Kumar (Civil Defence), Rajesh Kumar (NC (E) Air Force), Sunit Mohanty (Lieutenant, IAF), Meet Kumar (Squadron Leader, IAF).

Kaushik, a native of Shastri Nagar, Ajmer in Rajasthan, was working as ACP in Delhi Police.  He died on the line of duty when a mini truck coming at a high speed from Gurugram hit him. He was admitted to AIIMS but died later.

Kumar, a resident of VPO Khaira, South West Delhi, was working in Civil Defense. In the wee hours of September 19, 2020, he along with his team was checking vehicles near the Mangolpuri flyover. Suddenly a truck came at a high speed and ran away after hitting them. He was admitted to the hospital in a critical condition, where he died in the afternoon during treatment.

Kumar, was a resident of Safdarjung Enclave in South-West Delhi, serving in the IAF and Sunit Mohanty, a resident of Dwarka Sector-7, South-West Delhi, was serving as a Lieutenant in the IAF. Mohanty was commissioned on June 3, 2019 to fly an AN-32 KA 2752 aircraft to undertake an air maintenance mission for the Mehkuka Airfield in Arunachal Pradesh.

When the AN-32 KA 2752 aircraft took off from Jorhat airport on June 3, 2019, he and Kumar were in it. The plane went missing after about half an hour. Later on, June 12, the aircraft’s wreckage was found en route to Menchuka in Pari Hills, Siang, Arunachal Pradesh. All the people in the plane lost their lives in this accident.

Kumar, resident of Ashok Vihar, Phase-I was serving as a Squadron Leader in the IAF. His MiG-21 aircraft crashed during an operational flight on July 18, 2018 at Kangra Hills and he died in action.
