Focus on conservation of hills, forests during road construction: CM

Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Thursday said during the construction of roads, there is a lot of environmental negligence, especially in a State like Jharkhand, hills and forests are being cut and roads are being made, it is a matter of great concern for the future. And special care should be taken to conserve the forests, he said.

The CM, on Thursday, took detailed information of the road projects, which will be inaugurated on April 3 by the Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari during a review meeting with the officials of the Road Construction Department and National Highways Authority of India.

The CM said good roads are a sign of development, so quality care should be taken in the construction of roads. With this, roads should be constructed within the stipulated time frame.

Officials of NHAI told the Chief Minister that under Bharatmala project in Jharkhand, about 1,000 km roads are being built in which about 400 kms of roads have been completed while 600 kms of roads are under construction. The CM told NHAI officials that the remaining work of road construction should be completed within 6 months.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari will perform online inauguration of 21 road projects of National Highways Authority of India on April 3. Chief Minister Hemant Soren will also be present on this occasion. The online ceremony will have the inauguration of 7 road projects and the foundation stone of 14 road projects will be laid. The total length of the roads to be inaugurated is 245.19 km and the cost is about Rs 2,433.66 crore. The 14 road projects to be laid on the same foundation have a total length of 184.8 km and about Rs 754.71 crore will be spent on it.

The roads projects that will be inaugurated include Ghaghra-Gumla Road strengthening, Hatgamharia-Jaintagarh Road strengthening, Mahulia-Bahragoda Road, Bijupada-Kudu Fourlane, Kachhari Chowk Ranchi-Piska More-Bijupada Fourlane, Barahi-Hazaribagh, Piska More-Palma Section Fourlane.

The foundation stones of the road projects that will be laid include Kolebira-Simdega NH 23 Road Strengthening and Reconstruction, Simdega-Bansjor NH 23 Road Repair and Reconstruction, RCC Bridge Construction on Chindnala on NH-23, RCC Bridge Construction on Local Sewer on NH 23, 79 to 117 km Road on NH 99 Widening and strengthening, widening and other works of road between 11 to 30 km on NH 22, widening and other work of road between 48 and 62 km on NH 100, widening of road between 23 and 62 km on NH 133 and other works, Annaraj Valley on NH 345, improvement and other work of curved road in Garhwa, widening and other work of Kudu Ghaghra to lane road, strengthening and reconstruction of road between 10 to 54 km on NH 218, canopy on NH 99 Construction of ROB at NH 114, Strengthening of road and other works at 68 to87 km on NH 114, Bridge at NH 114, A at 245 and 260 km and Bridge construction at 46 km of NH 419.
