Monday, 20 September 2021 | Staff Reporter | RAIPUR

Former Chhattisgarh Minister and BJP leader Rajinder Pal Singh Bhatia (72), who had been ill since recovering from Covid-19, committed suicide at his home in Khujji town in Rajnandgaon district on Sunday, the BJP said.

Bharatiya Janata Party state media incharge Nalinesh Thokne said it was not clear what prompted Bhatia to kill himself.

He said Bhatia had been keeping unwell since recovering from Covid. He was being treated for post-Covid complications in New Delhi and Raipur.  He suffered from intense stomach pain.

The three-time MLA from Khujji Assembly constituency was the Minister of State for Transport in the first BJP government of Dr Raman Singh.

In 2013, he revolted against the party for denying him an Assembly ticket and contested as a rebel. He was re-inducted into the party in 2014 before the Lok Sabha election.
