A hardcore Naxalite carrying a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh on his head was killed in a gun battle with security forces in Chhattisgarh's Dantewada district, police said on Sunday.
The incident happened in a forested patch between Gaadam and Jungampal, about 450 km from Raipur.
“In an exchange of fire between Dantewada DRG and Maoists of Katekalyan area committee at about 2 pm, a Maoist’s body was recovered,” Inspector General of Police (Bastar) Sundarraj P said.
He was identified as Vetti Hunga, militia commander who carried a reward of Rs 1 lakh on his head, the officer said. More Maoists are suspected to have been killed or injured in the action.
An 8 mm pistol and a country made muzzle loading gun were recovered from the spot. Also, a 2kg IED, crackers, Maoist literature, medicines and items of daily were found.
In a separate incident, Maoists burnt five construction vehicles engaged in a water filter plant in Naimed police station limits of Bijapur district, the officer said.
Armed Maoists set ablaze two mixture machines, two poclain machines and a tractor on Sunday afternoon.
