Himachal CM presides over all party meeting

An all- party meeting under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur was held here on Wednesday to review the arrangements for the proposed visit of the President Ram Nath Kovind from September 16 in the state.

The President will be on a four-day visit to the hill state and will address a special session of the State Assembly on Friday to mark the golden jubilee of Himachal Pradesh's statehood.

The Chief Minister said that the State Government had planned to organize year-long celebrations to mark the golden jubilee year of the statehood, but due to the Corona pandemic it was not possible to celebrate it on a large scale.

He said that to commemorate this auspicious occasion, a special session of state Vidhan Sabha will be addressed by the President. Besides the sitting MLAs, all the former MLAs have been invited on this auspicious occasion. This event would be held in a highly dignified and graceful manner so as to make it a memorable event, he said. 

Thakur also sought all possible cooperation from the leaders of all the political parties.  Speaker of Vidhan Sabha, Vipin Singh Parmar said that all the former MPs and MLAs have been invited to be part of this mega event. He said that over 73 former MPs and MLAs have been given their consent to be part of this event.

Leader of Opposition Mukesh Agnihotri said that this event is above party politics and assured full cooperation from the Congress party to the State Government. MLA Rakesh Singha said that it is an event of the people of the state who have made immense contributions towards the development of Himachal.

Chief Whip Bikram Jaryal, MLAs Asha Kumari and Ram Lal Thakur also shared their views during the meeting. 

According to the schedule, the President will reach Annadale Helipad on September 16 at 12 noon via Chandigarh from Palam Airport, Delhi. Subsequently, he will reach Cecil hotel at Chaura Maidan here at around 12.25 pm. 

On September 17, the President will address the State Assembly while in the evening, he will attend a cultural programme at 7.30 pm and banquet at 8 pm hosted by the state Governor.
