Toshali Crafts Mela from Jan 21

Bhubaneswar: The 15th Toshali National Crafts Mela will be held at the Janata Maidan here from January 21 to February 5. While a total of 450 stalls had been put up at the Toshali National Crafts Mela last year, it has been decided to limit the number to 250 this year due to the Covid-19 situation.

Bus overturns in Dhenkanal; 5 injured 

Dhenkanal: A bus carrying more than 50 passengers overturned near the Ramial bridge under the Kamakhyanagar police limits in Dhenkanal district in the wee hours of Thursday, injuring five persons. The vehicle was heading towards Baleswar from Rourkela. Police and Fire Services personnel rushed to the spot, rescued the victims and admitted them to the Kamakhyanagar Hospital.

Ramachandi Mahostav held 

Dhenkanal: The 4th Ramachandi cultural festival was inaugurated by Dhenkanal Sadar MLA Sudhir Kumar Samal in a well-decorated open pandal at the Nadhara Ramachandi shrine on Monday. Talcher MLA Braja Kishore Pradhan, one of the organisers of the cultural festival, was guest of honour. Subhra Jyoti, Rituparna, Nitasa, Amrita and Subhalagna of Nataraj Sangeet Mahavidhyalaya performed Odishi and Sambalpuri dances. A Gotipua group from Puri also performed. Kumar Bapi sang Bhajans. The fair at Maa Ramachandi Peetha of Nadhara concluded on Thursday. A Bishnu Mahayagnya was organised at the venue.

Literacy camp conducted for students in Ganjam

Brahmapur: A financial literacy camp was conducted by Rama Nath Panda, FLC of Ganjam district at the Government +2 Science College of Kukudakhandi. The meeting was attended by LDM Ashok Kumar Panda, IOB Branch, Ganjam, Brahmapur as chief guest. He advised the students regarding Covid safety, social security and insurance. Banking and general awareness tests were held among students. Successful students got prizes. A demonstration digital banking and use of MC Points in rural unbanked villages was conducted by BC Operator Rama Chandra Jena. Branch Manager S Roy, IOB, Kukudakhandi gave a vote of thanks.

Vivekananda Jayanti held in Brahmapur

Brahmapur: Social, literacy and sports organisation KRANTI organised a rally from Brahmahagar 1st Line and Nehru Nagar 8th line on the occasion of Swami Vivekananda Jayanti with school and college students. First, the guests garlanded the statue of Swami at the MKCG campus. Then, the well-decorated chariot of Swami moved through the city spreading his message. The event was led by Dr Devanand Das, Executive Director of KRANTI. Ex-local MLA Dr RC Chaupattnaik inaugurated the programme. Other eminent guests were BJP district president Bhibuti Bhushan Jena, Ex-BeDA Chairman Subash Moharana, SMIT president Bhagwan Gantayat, Mahan Sangha president Susant Sabat.

Fakir Mohan birth anniv held at Semiliguda

Sunabeda: On the occasion of the birth anniversary of Vyasakabi Fakir Mohan Senapati, tributes were paid to him by the Fakir Mohan Cultural Association at Sunabeda and Semiliguda. A function was organised at the Sanjjevani conference hall at Semiliguda by Sanjeev Mohanty. The speakers recalled the contributions of the iconic poet’s contribution to Odia literature.

Tumbeswar Volleyball Tournament held

Brahmapur: A volleyball tournament to encourage sports activities in rural areas was held on January 10 at Pratappur under Purushotampur block in front of the heritage Tumbeswar temple in which 15 teams from 15 GPs of Ganjam district participated. Former Assembly Deputy Speaker Rama Chandra Panda inaugurated the tournament.

Annual overhaul of OPGC Unit-2 begins

Jharsuguda: The planned annual overhaul of OPGC Unit-2 (capacity 210 MW) has been undertaken from Wednesday. The unit shall remain shut down for 20 days to complete this overhaul. Annual maintenance/overhaul of Boiler auxiliaries, Turbine auxiliaries, and Transformer auxiliaries shall be carried out. As per the official procedure, this outage has been planned in advance in consultation with concerned State authorities, GRIDCO and State Load Despatch Centre.
