Cong ex-MLA from Pathankot joins SAD

Chandigarh: Former Congress MLA from Pathankot Ashok Sharma on Monday joined the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in presence of party president Sukhbir Singh Badal. Sharma has also served as Punjab Tourism Development Corporation’s chairman. Welcoming him, Sukhbir said that SAD will be strengthened in Pathankot after Sharma’s joining and he would be given due respect in the party. More Congress and BJP leaders from Pathankot will be joining SAD in coming days, he said.

Punjab ADGP releases book on current affairs

Chandigarh: Punjab’s Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), NRI Affairs, Amardeep Singh Rai on Monday released a book on the State’s current affairs, “The Punjab Review”, written by Munish Jindal. ADGP Rai extended his best wishes to author Jindal and appreciated his continuous efforts to help aspiring candidates attempting Punjab Civil Services (PCS) and other competitive examinations of Punjab in their studies through his books. ADGP Rai has also written the foreword for the book.

First meeting of HP Gram Panchayats on Jan 27

Shimla: Himachal Pradesh Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Virender Kanwar on Monday said that the first meeting of the newly-constituted Gram Panchayats, Panchayat Samitis, and Zila Parishads of the state will be held on January 27. The State Government has issued a notification in this regard on January 16, 2021, under section 128 of the Himachal Pradesh Panchayati Raj Act, 1994. Panchayat Pradhan will administer oath to ward members during the meeting besides holding discussions on various local matters by the gram panchayats, he said.

C’garh Traffic Police celebrates road safety week

Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Traffic Police on Monday inaugurated the 32nd National Road Safety Week-2021 on the theme “Sadak Suraksha – Jeevan Raksha” by organising Cyclothon at Sukhna Lake. The Cyclothon was flagged off by the DIG Omvir Singh. During the event, SSP (Security and Traffic) Manisha Choudhary, SP (Traffic) Ketan Bansal, all DSPs Traffic, other police officials along with approximately 150 cyclists from Cycle Giri and other cycle groups participated. Road Safety Pledge was also undertaken by the participants for obeying traffic rules and self contribution towards making the roads safer.
