Incessant rains continue to play havoc in UP Death-toll in rain related incidents reaches 38

With incessant rains continuing in many parts of the state, especially in eastern Uttar Pradesh, the death-toll increased to 38 with more deaths reported from different areas. Severe damage to crops has been also reported, mainly from central districts of the state due to torrential rains.

 

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed senior officials to tour their areas and ensure that relief work is being done properly. He has also asked the officials to assess the damage in each area to fix compensation.

 

Reports coming from many parts of the state confirmed that normal life was again disturbed by the stormy rains. Since Thursday, 38 people have died and many have been injured in rain related mishaps during the rains across the state.

 

Due to heavy rain for two days in the entire Awadh region, the normal life has been completely paralysed. At the same time, 22 people lost their lives as trees were uprooted and houses collapsed in many areas. Four people died due to wall collapse in different areas of Barabanki. A wall collapsed on real sisters going to buy household articles in Sultanpur. A girl died after being buried under rubble in a house collapse while at another place a woman died when the wall of her house collapsed on her.

 

In Ayodhya too, four people, including man and his son, died after being buried under the rubble in house and wall collapse incidents. In Rae Bareli-Amethi, three people lost their lives in accidents due to rain.

 

According to Pratapgarh police, during the incessant rain since Thursday, four-year-old Amit died when a house collapsed and he was buried under the rubble in Nevdia ward of Antu,Nagar Panchayat under Antu police station. In a wall collapse incident in Tiwaripur village under the same police station, Om Prakash (50) lost his life. Besides, Kalika (80) was buried under the rubble when a wall collapsed in Barendra village under Sagipur police station while a woman Kalavati (65) died in an incident of wall collapse in Lolipokhta village under Kohadur police station.

 

According to police, Chamela Devi (54) died in an incident of house collapse in Tardaha village in Kotwali Patti police station area and Kusum Maurya (25) died when a house collapsed on her in Srinathpur under the same police station. Amarjeet Singh (65) was also killed when a wall collapsed on him in Kumbhi Diha village of Thana Udaipur area.

 

A woman and her two children died after a kutcha house collapsed in Karahi village under Mau police station of Chitrakoot district on Friday evening. Inspector in-charge of Mau police station, Gulab Tripathi, said that Ajay Singh's kutcha house, which was in a dilapidated condition, suddenly collapsed around 5 pm on Friday and his wife Yashoda (25), son Rishi (5) and daughter Riya (3) were buried and the rubble and all the three died.

 

In Kanpur, rain started with strong winds for two days, killing seven people. Of these, four people died in Fatehpur, one each in Chitrakoot, Auraiya and Unnao. At the same time, two soldiers were injured when the wall of a barrack collapsed in Indergarh police station area in Kannauj. Many goats and four cows also died in Kannauj.

 

Vegetables, including crops, have suffered a lot in Banda. The crop of moong, urad, sesame is ready in the field but due to rain, farmers are unable to gather the courage to harvest the crop.

 

Traffic was disrupted in Etawah due to water-logging and uprooted trees at many places. In Auraiya, city and rural areas are submerged in water. At many places, due to uprooted trees and electric poles, there was no power supply in 200 villages. At many places in Farrukhabad, there was power failure as uprooted trees snapped electric wires. There was water-logging in many areas of the city.

 

According to the Meteorological department of CSA, on September 16, Kanpur region received so much rain after 15 years.

 

In Varanasi, Azamgarh and Mirzapur divisions, it has rained intermittently throughout the day since Thursday. Five people died in incidents of house collapse. Rain in Prayagraj disrupted normal life throughout the day. A woman was killed and 13 people were injured in an accident during the rain in Prayagraj on Thursday.

 

Normal life was affected in Gorakhpur and Basti divisions due to the heavy rains which continued on Friday. There was water-logging in many areas  while in many places the power supply was disrupted due to falling trees.

 

Basti's agricultural scientist Dr Saurabh Dixit said that the rains were very harmful for the mid-term paddy crops. Khalilabad District Agriculture Officer PC Vishwakarma said that 39 mm of rain had fallen. In Deoria and Kushinagar too, rains led to water-logging in many areas.

 

In Jhansi too, due to rains for two days, the fields have been flooded. Due to this, the crop of urad and sesame has been damaged.

 

There has been heavy rain in Moradabad's Sambhal area since Wednesday night. In Mainpuri, many electric poles were uprooted by the strong wind and rain. Due to 55 mm rainfall across the district, the weather remained cool but water-logging became a big problem for the citizens. Due to strong wind and rain, the standing paddy crop has fallen in the fields and the production is likely to be affected.

 

In Firozabad too, the low-lying areas of the city were water-logged due to torrential rains.
