Demanding immediate steps to solve the acute drinking water problem, large numbers of villagers in Jajpur district launched an indefinite agitation in front of the office of Dasarathpur block on Tuesday.
The agitators threatened to continue the agitation if the Government did not come forward for immediate solution of the problem in the villages of Palatapur, Kantibanka, Muralipur, Sathibati, Bindha , Nandipur , Nilakanthapur and other villages under Dasarathpur block. The Government’s plan to supply drinking water through pipelines in the villages at Biswali , Kuldiha, Narendrapur, Thakuria, Pitambarpur, Kathagada, and other villages under Dasarathpur block at the cost of Rs 37 lakh is moving at a snail’s pace.
As a result, there is acute shortage of drinking water in the area. "The work of the drinking water supply project has already been completed.
Non-supply of electricity to the project is the main reason behind the delay of the project work. We will soon supply drinking water through the pipelines to the villagers," said Assistant Engineer of Rural Water Supply and Sanitation (RWSS) Dasarathpur block Baraj Sandha.
