Inaugurating the Korba Medical College, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel declared on Tuesday that Korba will soon become a beautiful, healthy and educated district in Chhattisgarh.

Baghel said this while addressing a function after inaugurating the Medical College and performing Bhoomi Poojan of a new building of the Medical College from the Vidhan Sabha in Raipur through video conferencing.

He said this is the first time that Chhattisgarh will get four government medical      colleges in a year.

Three medical colleges have been approved in Korba, Kanker and Mahasamund. Besides, a decision has been taken to acquire the Chandulal Chandrakar Memorial Medical College. This will help improve medical education and medical facilities in the state, he said.

When Chhattisgarh was born, there was only one medical college -- in Raipur. Later, new Government Medical Colleges were established at Bilaspur, Raigarh, Ambikapur, Rajnandgaon and Jagdalpur.

Stating that shortage of doctors has always been a problem, he said the government is trying to open a medical college in every Lok Sabha constituency to increase the number of doctors and to provide better medical facilities.

In future, the government would take steps towards establishing medical colleges at the district level, he said. Efforts would be made to start a medical college in Janjgir as well.

Budget allocation for the new medical colleges will be released in April, Baghel said.

Health Minister T.S. Singh Deo said today is a day of happiness for everyone. Chhattisgarh is continuously advancing in the field of health.

School Education Minister and Minister in charge of Korba Dr. Premsai Singh Tekam said the building of Korba Medical College will be built for about Rs 325 crores. The college will have 100 seats.

Revenue Minister Jaisingh Agrawal said the college will be established in the IT college campus and 25 acres of land have been allotted.
