Nishank exhorts all to join fight against Covid

Wednesday, 12 May 2021 | PNS | Dehradun

The Union Education minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ appreciated the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee for presenting Rs 10 lakh for the additional insurance of sanitation workers, ward boys and others working hard in hospitals.

The institute did this in response to the appeal of the Haridwar district magistrate. Nishank said that all educational institutions of the nation and other people should also extend assistance in the war against the pandemic. The union minister also appreciated the district magistrate for his initiative. The DM, C Ravishankar had appealed to all that thousands of sanitation workers, ward boys and others were also working dedicatedly in hospitals like doctors, nurses and other medical staff. He had said that the insurance of doctors and nurses is facilitated by the government but the sanitation workers and ward boys are not insured.

When these people are also working as frontline workers, all should come forward for the security of such workers and their families, the DM had said.

Responding to this appeal, IIT Roorkee announced Rs 10 lakh from its welfare fund. The paperwork for this will be completed on Wednesday.
