A man of Rourkela, has fallen victim of an online fraud and the fraudster has withdrawn Rs 1,20,400 from his bank account.
According to sources, one Laxmikant Nayak of Sector-17 area under Sector-15 police station got an SMS on May 28 mentioning that if KYC of his mobile is not updated, the SIM of mobile will be blocked. The son of Laxmikant regularly does his online class through this mobile. Without wasting time, he started the process to update KYC.
The fraudster further advised him to recharge with Rs 10 online. He obliged. After sometime, Laxmikant got an SMS in the mobile on debit of Rs 99,000 from his SBI savings account. Subsequently, Rs 20,000 and Rs 1,400 were debited from the same account.
After seeing the messages, Laxmikant and his son got shocked.
Laxmikant suspected that he had been made a victim of online fraud and he immediately contacted the SBI customer care department and apprised in email about the online fraud. He thereafter lodged a complaint in Sector-15 police station. The Sector-15 police registered a case but the fraudster was not nabbed yet. “After registering case, we are investigating the case,” said Sector-15 police station IIC Parvati Hembrum.
