The Koh-e-Fiza police arrested two bookies late in the night on Tuesday on the charge of betting online on cricket match from Welcome Apartment and recovered half a dozen mobile phones, one laptop and Rs 6000 cash; online ID were used for betting which were found closed after their arrest, said police.
Police acted swiftly after receiving information that online bets worth lakhs of rupees is going on at Welcome apartment and based on the information police narrowed on the accused who were found betting. Acting on a tip-off, the police raided apartment and arrested two accused identified as Manoj Bajaj and Dileep.
Several contacts have been recovered from the house which could help in unearthing the nexus behind the betting. Mobile phones would be searched as information regarding the people involved in placing bets and accepting bets could be found. Police have registered a case under the gambling Act and have started further investigation.
Meanwhile, Kotwali police have booked a man for sexually exploiting a 32-year-old woman for the past nine years; accused remained absconding said police.Police said that the accused identified as Anshul Sharma was booked after the victim lodged complaint against the accused of sexual exploitation for the past nine year on the pretext of marriage.
The victim in her complaint stated that she met the accused and developed relationship later after which they stayed in live-in arrangement and few months ago accused left victim and married another girl, when victim came to know she lodged complaint.
The police registered a case under sections 376 2 (N) and 506 of the IPC and nabbed the accused. The details of the accused and crime records have to be investigated in the further investigation.
