Under the SC and ST Prevention of Atrocities Act, there are provisions for compensation to victims. For such compensation, a joint inquiry report by the DSP and Executive Magistrate is a requirement.
On instructions of DGP, a special drive was launched from January 11 to 17 by the Odisha Police for conducting such joint inquiries and issuing the Joint Enquiry Reports (JERs). As a result of this special drive, 704 JERs were issued during this one week period.
