Monday, 29 November 2021 | PNS | Chandigarh

Fully gearing up for 2022 Punjab assembly polls, the Shiromani Akali Dal on Sunday announced four more candidates. With this, the Akali Dal has announced the candidates for total 87 seats, out of total 97 it is contesting in alliance with the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).

SAD, after severing the decades-old ties with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the issue of farm laws, has forged a pre-poll alliance with the BSP to contest 2022 elections. As per the seat-sharing arrangement for Punjab assembly’s 117 seats, SAD will field its candidates on 97 seats, while BSP will contest on 20 seats.

On Sunday, SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal announced the names of Nusrat Ali Khan from Malerkotla assembly seat, while Rohit Vohra will contest from Ferozepur. Gur Iqbal Singh Mahal will contest from Qadian, and Rajanbir Singh will be the SAD candidate from Sri Hargobindpur seat.

In Malerkotla, former Minister Nusrat Ali Khan has been announced as the new candidate, by withdrawing the candidature of Yunas Mohammad, whose name was announced earlier.

Punjab Assembly polls are due early next year.
