Six-month-old girl gets new lease of life

Sunday, 01 August 2021 | Staff Reporter | RAIPUR

A six-month-old girl has got a new lease of life after undergoing a complicated liver transplant -- thanks to doctors in a private hospital here and her own father who donated a part of his liver to save his daughter.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Saturday prayed for fast recovery of Takshi as he visited the girl, her family and doctors at the private hospital here.

Briefing Baghel, Hospital Director Dr. Sandeep Dave said the daughter of Luv Sinha, a Raipur resident, was suffering from a serious liver disease, Biliary atresia.

It is a condition in infants where the bile ducts outside and inside the liver are scarred and blocked. As the bile cannot flow into the intestine, it builds up in the liver.

In turn, it damages the liver tissues and function and leads to cirrhosis, an official statement said.

He said the treatment requires a liver transplant. Luv Sinha donated a part of his liver to give a new life to his daughter.

The operation was done for free under the 'Chief Minister Special Health Assistance Scheme’ and 'Dr. Khubchand Baghel Health Assistance Scheme' as the girl's family could not afford the operation cost.
