Health hub Tata Main Hospital (TMH) has started operating 456 Covid beds out of these 306 beds comprising 50 ventilator beds are at the hospital premises while rest 150 are at GT Hostel 4. The beds are running with 100 per cent occupancy.

Addressing a teleconference Dr Rajan Choudhry, advisor, medical services, Tata Steel informed that the second wave of Covid has hit the city hard. Last year what it took five weeks the same situation has reached in just two weeks. He informed that the virus is also hitting the hospital hard as 13 doctors of TMH have been tested Covid positive while 20 other health workers are also down with the virus. They have been kept in isolation. The hospital has also started testing facilities at JRD Tata sports complex.

Answering queries of the media, Dr Choudhry said that in the second too patients are showing symptoms of cold, cough and fever. However, this time some have also symptoms of body ache and diarrhea. 

He said the hospital has also started vaccination drive at the steel works and yesterday alone 1050 workers were covered. The hospital advisor has appealed to the people of the district to strictly follow the rules of home quarantine. Even a slight negligence can hit many people in corona. He advised people to strictly adhere to physical distance and essentially use masks and sanitizers.

The advisor said that increasing the speed of vaccination is the only way to win the battle against the pandemic. The transmission of the viral spread is much more high in the second wave. He said that as the vaccination gathers speed the situation will become normal.

“Though the second wave is much higher in intensity than the first wave, the presence of vaccines makes the difference currently. The vaccine will develop the third immunity to fight the virus,” said Dr Choudhry.
