Saturday, 18 September 2021 | PNS | Lucknow

Shahjahanpur was rocked by a sensational case of honour killing while a woman constable was found hanging under mysterious circumstances in Budaun.

In Shahjahanpur, Ashish Singh (25) and Bunty (22) were shot dead by the latter’s family members over the couple’s affair which was not endorsed by the girl’s parents and her refusal to marry a boy of her family’s choice.

While the bullet-riddled body of Ashish was recovered by the police in a field about 100 metre from the girl’s home in Naugama Narottam village of Gadia Rangia police station area on Friday morning, Bunty’s body was later found on the second floor of her house.

Ashish's father Sukhpal accused the girl's family of planning and executing the double-murder. While Ashish was married and working in Punjab and became a father of a daughter two weeks ago, he had a liaison with Bunty.

Meanwhile, Bunty’s family members fixed her marriage but she refused to get married and also met Ashish on Thursday night. The girl's family members were agitated over her move and they gunned down Ashish and Bunty on Friday morning and fled after the incident.

A case was registered and efforts were being made to nab them.

In Budaun, the body of a woman constable deployed with Dial 112 Service of UP Police, was found hanging in her rented house in Dataganj area of the district on Thursday.

Constable Shubhlata (26) lived with her brother, Anurag, and cousin, Kanchan, in the rented accommodation. Her husband Deepa Kumar, whom she married last year, is serving in the Indian Army and is posted somewhere else.

Police suspect that Shubhlata took her life on Thursday when her cousin was in the washroom and brother had gone to school.

Police are awaiting her autopsy report.

Kanchan told the police that everything was normal in the morning and Shubhlata told him that she had taken a day off. She even prepared breakfast for everyone and he heard her speaking to her husband over the phone. He said that after coming out from the washroom, he was shocked to find Shubhlata’s body hanging from the ceiling fan. The constable was rushed to hospital by her kin and neighbours where the doctor pronounced her dead.

The police said that prima facie it appeared that the woman constable killed herself over a family dispute but every aspect was being investigated.

Meanwhile in Gorakhpur, Sub-Inspector Vijay Tiwari was arrested for allegedly forcing his wife to have unnatural sex and beating her on multiple occasions, on Thursday. The cop’s wife, a native of Deoria, filed a complaint against him and accused him of mental, physical and financial harassment. The couple got married in 2014.

As per reports, Tiwari was in-charge of Rampur Karkhana police station. The complainant belongs to Deoria district. The wife alleged that her husband used to force her to have unnatural sex and would beat her when she resisted. She also alleged that the harassment started after she started living with her in-laws.

It came to light that the woman was even thrashed and thrown out of the house in 2017. She came back to her in-laws’ house after some family members intervened but the situation did not improve. Tiwari and his family members allegedly asked for a dowry of Rs 20 lakh.

An FIR in the case was reportedly filed in March this year at Rampur Karkhana police station based on the woman’s complaint. The police carried out an investigation and found that the allegations against the cop were true after which Vijay Tiwari was arrested on Thursday night.
