Woman mauled by leopard

In a bizarre incident, a woman was mauled to death by a leopard in the Pithoragarh district of Kumaon division of Uttarakhandee.

Victim, 46 year old Kalawati wife of Umaid Singh resident of Kapri village in Pithoragarh district was working in the fields on Thursday evening when she was attacked by a prowling leopard. The leopard dragged her away to the nearby forests. The villagers, who went for frantic search, recovered her dead body at a distance of two kilometers. Her post mortem was carried out on Friday.

Expressing concern over the incident, Divisional Forest Officer Naveen Chandra Pant disclosed that the forest department is installing a cage in order to trap the erring leopard. He said a letter has also been written to the Chief Wildlife Warden in order to declare leopard as man eater.  He also held the affected family will be given the compensation shortly and all possible help will be extended to them.
