Back to school

Young students must be taught to follow a healthy lifestyle, food and take up exercising

After two years, all the children are finally going back to school. Some kids, especially those in primary classes, would attend school for the first time in their lives. Schools from Class I to VIII are also open from Delhi to Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. After the reduction in the number of Corona cases, junior schools have been reopened in many States where senior classes had already been started. In Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, students of primary class have started attending offline classes from February 14. Schools were reopened for senior classes in Delhi last week after a lot of pressure from parents who were worried about their kids sitting at home for nearly two years now. Children from nursery to class VIII will also be able to go to school in the Capital now. It is indeed a matter of great relief across States that life is limping back to normal and the scare of the pandemic is slowly fading away. Not that it has vanished altogether but its severity is now significantly compromised. Moreover, after a successful vaccination drive undertaken by the Government, people are much more confident now than they were in the aftermath of the second wave. Of course, the fear of the pandemic will remain for a long time even after it is gone.

People who have lost their loved ones during this period would find it difficult to forget it in their lifetime. There’s no option but to face it unitedly. It was a challenge to our survival and the human race has once again proved its resilience. The one positive thing about the pandemic has been that it brought out the goodness of people in more ways than one. People helped each other and stood with their kith and kin in times of their need. It gave time to people to think about life, the purpose of life itself and, of course, the frailty of it. Now that we are coming out of it, we must ensure that we are prepared for such challenges in the future. We must plug all the gaps in our healthcare system and promote a healthy lifestyle that boosts immunity. Our ancient medicine system must be strengthened to deal with such threats. The children now must be taught in schools to follow a healthy lifestyle, besides taking up exercise and healthy food. But then, often, what we learn from any crisis is that we don’t learn anything from it.
