‘Huge contribution of silkworm products to the country's textile industry’

Various programmes are to be organized at ICAR-Indian Institute of Natural Resins and Gums, Namkum, Ranchi under the Producer Pest Protection Week (from 16 to 22 May 2022), under which "Silk Insect Day" was be celebrated on 18th May 2022. The institute staff along with the students of various institutes and universities participated in the programme. On this occasion, Dr. Nirmal Kumar, Director of the Institute, while presenting his views said that the main objective of celebrating this type of week is that we should be aware of the importance of productive insects and their qualities in our daily lives and conserve and develop them so that we can truly benefit from the qualities inherent in them.

Dr. Nirmal also appealed to the students that they can develop their interest in the production kits like lac insect, silkworm and beekeeping by developing their interest and choose it as a good employment option which has immense potential in our state Jharkhand. We need to increase the awareness of productive insects and make the information related to it accessible to the common man. We all should also try to understand the productive insects from the point of view of their usefulness in the conservation of nature.

On this occasion, Dr. Azfar Hussain Naqvi, Scientist of National Tasar Research and Training Institute also presented a lecture in front of the students on the conservation, types, production and importance of silkworm. After the lecture, the students and the staff of the institute asked questions to the experts, for which they were given satisfactory answers. The visiting students also visited the research field and museum of the institute.

In the programme, all the heads of the departments of the institute presented their views regarding the productive insects. The convener of the program Dr. Jyotirmoy Ghosh presented the welcome speech in the program and the vote of thanks was given by Dr. Nandkishore Thombre. A total of 80 people including students and institute staff were registered in the programme.
