The Paradip Port Banik Sangha (PPBS) through a Press release signed by union secretary Debabrata Sahu and members of the executive committee rubbished allegations of financial irregularities against the union. Besides, they said that the allegation of not holding regular election by the union is baseless.
They clarified that these allegations have been levelled by Niranjan Mahant, former secretary of the union.
"He had been the secretary of the union for 30 years but always valued his own interest, not the interest of trade union and businessmen. He is a special class contractor and businessman. He creates chaos in the union through his old habits and changes the president and becomes the secretary himself," they alleged.
Elections have been held for the past two years and will be held on time. As per the rules and regulations of the union, the officials will be elected, there is no conspiracy. In his (Mahant’s) time, the office of the PPBS and the Jaga Sangha of Durga Mandap could not be registered. Due to his negligence in such a crucial action, the PPBS had to bear a huge cost of Rs 17 lakh, they said.
