29 cows found dead in closed container

As many as 29 cows were found dead in a closed container stranded near the national highway in Mathura district, police said.

The police found the stranded container in which 29 cows were found dead while one cow was found alive. Mathura Circle Officer, Refinery, Harshita Singh, said the driver of the container was absconding.

"We received information that a closed container was standing near the national highway in Mathura district. Twenty-nine cows were found dead in the container while one cow was found alive. The driver is absconding. A case has been registered," the CO said, adding that investigation was underway.

Meanwhile, a 33-year-old man died when a motorcycle on which he was riding pillion collided with a vehicle in Sultanpur district, police said on Saturday.

Narendra Verma and another man were returning after attending a wedding on Friday night and were going to meet their relative, an officer said.

The rider lost control over the motorcycle and it dashed into a vehicle in Motiganj area. Verma died, while the motorcycle rider escaped unhurt, Gosaiganj police station inspector Raghavendra Rawat said.

The body was sent for autopsy, he added.
