A question that changed my life as a filmmaker: Vaibhav Gattani

Saturday, 23 April 2022 | Staff Reporter | Bhopal

Vaibhav is a 28-year-old filmmaker who was always interested in filmmaking but was not confident enough as career. While pursuing B-Tech, he realized that making films is the only thing he wants to do for the rest of his life and hence started learning filmmaking simultaneously.

When asked about one particular incident that changed his life, he said, “I was making my short films as a portfolio so that I could get into a production house and become an Assistant Director. Not that I wasn’t enjoying it but my main reason behind making those were to get inside the so called industry. But then things were not really moving as I realized that it was very difficult to even show your work to a production house if you don’t have any contacts!”

This really affected him. So after few short films, he really had to ask himself this one important question - What is it that I really want to do? “At first, I thought working under the best and the biggest production house or directing an A-league actor or being highly paid for direction, but then after a lot of introspection, I realized that Making films is the only thing that I really want to do. Yes, it’s as simple as that. And I just realized that nobody can stop me from doing that! I don’t need anybody’s permission. In fact, I can make a film on my own.”

He continues that he loved the process and idea of collaborating with other passionate artists.

“Of course, I want to work with the best of the production houses and all those other things but then that is secondary. That one question really changed the way I work! Now, I am making movies for myself and I am just loving each and every bit of it to the core,” he added.

Vaibhav will be releasing his 1st independent feature film ‘Void’ on May 06, 2022 on Vimeo on Demand.
