AAP will move court against Centre’s bid to delay MCD polls: CM

Wednesday, 06 July 2022 | Staff Reporter | NEW DELHI

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday accused the Centre of using its power for delaying the MCD elections in the city. He asserted that the AAP will approach the court to get the polls conducted on time.

Speaking in the Delhi Assembly on the second day of the Monsoon Session, Kejriwal claimed that there are talks that Delhi might be converted into a full Union Territory (UT) and then there will be no elections, but Delhiites will not stand for it.

“By hating Kejriwal, you have started hating the country,” Kejriwal said to BJP MLAs in the House. He said "Kejriwal is not important, but the county is".

Talking to reporters later, Kejriwal said the BJP is not able to control the AAP so there are talks that they want to dissolve the Delhi Assembly.

“Senior BJP leaders are saying that Delhi will be made a full Union Territory and the Assembly will be dissolved. But if this happens, Delhi's public will not keep sitting silently. Delhiites will come on streets against the move,” he asserted. Kejriwal said during a discussion in the House, “They (Centre) are using force, hooliganism in not allowing MCD elections. We will have to approach the court to get MCD elections conducted on time and we will do it.”

“We have mountains of garbage. It gives us immense pain that we are unable to do anything. We have a strong resolve to clean the entire State if the MCD is under our rule. The BJP has the MCD under its control for 15 years, but they did nothing and now they have stalled the elections,” said Kejriwal.

“Once the MCD is under our control, the same janitors will make us proud in the entire world. They also try to shift the blame on the Delhi Government for not giving them funds. We always provided them with adequate funds,” said Kejriwal.

“For now, it is the Union Government which has to give them funds and not us. When they brought the Bill to take MCD under their control, they accused us of treating the MCD unfairly. But now the tables have turned.

Now it is the Union Government which should be questioned for lack of funds. They are not paying the salary of their employees and as a result, no work is being done,” said Kejriwal.

“There was a movie starring Amitabh Bachchan and Shashi Kapoor titled ‘Deewar’ in which Bachchan asks Kapoor what he got from his values and principles. He had money, luxury, a bungalow, and cars. What do you have? Kapoor said that he has his mother on his side.

BJP is threatening the people of Delhi that they have ED, CBI, Income Tax Department, Delhi Police. They have wealth and grand offices in every district. What do you have? Two crore Delhiites say in unison that they have their son, Kejriwal. That’s why they fear us,” said Kejriwal. The CM said the Centre was causing administrative delays for the Government of Delhi.

“I was invited to Singapore to explain the Delhi Model to the world but these people have thrown my file into lost some corner to stop me,” he said.
