Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Ujjain on October 11 to inaugurate the newly constructed corridor of the world famous Mahakal Temple, the cabinet is meeting in Ujjain on Tuesday to take stock of the preparations.
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has decided to keep the cabinet meeting to be held on Tuesday, September 27 in Ujjain. After the meeting, the Chief Minister will inspect the corridor and will review the preparations for the programme with the officials here. Along with this, the responsibility of the ministers will also be discussed.
The Mahakal campus located in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh is being expanded in 20 hectares. After the expansion, the Mahakal temple complex will be four times bigger than the Kashi Vishwanath corridor in Uttar Pradesh. Kashi Vishwanath Corridor is spread over 5 hectares.
The Mahakal Corridor is being developed on the banks of the mythical lake Rudrasagar. About 200 sculptures and frescoes related to Lord Shiva, Goddess Sati and other religious tales have been made here.
The work of Mahakal temple expansion project has been done at a cost of about Rs 750 crore. Under this, works like Mahakal Path, beautification of Rudra Sagar, Vishram Dham etc. have been completed in the first phase. Mahakal Path was recently opened for devotees amid expansion works. A big gate of Mahakal Path has been built near Triveni Sangrahalaya.
After the expansion, the road in front of the Mahakal temple has become 70 meters wide.
The road up to the Mahakal temple square will be widened by 24 meters. After expansion, the area of Mahakal temple has increased from 2.2 hectares to more than 20 hectares.
